Bariatric Surgery Overview

Dr. Matthew Lublin is dedicated to helping patients in Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills resolve or improve their obesity problem and its related diseases with effective weight loss surgery procedures. Most diet and exercise plans fail after just a few months and patients often regain their weight or put on even more. It is a vicious cycle that ends in frustration and often depression.

Bariatric surgery is currently the only long-term effective treatment for obesity and its comorbidities such as type-2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea.

Our Procedures

Dr. Lublin performs gastric sleeve and gastric banding surgery on qualifying patients. Both are purely restrictive procedures, meaning that they limit the amount of food a patient can consume at any given meal. This results in fewer calories and excellent weight loss potential. The gastric sleeve removes approximately 80% of the existing stomach pouch while the gastric band uses a flexible silicone implant tightened around the top of the stomach (no part of the stomach is cut or removed). With focused lifestyle change, both procedures can be very effective over the long-term. Learn more about our weight loss surgery procedures >>

Do I Qualify?

Typically those with a BMI of 30 or more with at least one obesity related disease will qualify for the Lap-Band® while those with a BMI of 35 or more with one or more obesity related diseases may qualify for the gastric sleeve. Those with a BMI of 40 or more often qualify for bariatric surgery regardless of any associated diseases. The first step to understanding if you qualify for surgery is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Lublin. You will then undergo a series of tests to ensure that you are a candidate for surgery. Learn more about qualifying for bariatric surgery >>
